Pacemaster Treadmills Reviewed

Pacemaster treadmills have been in the business for 35 years and in that time they have established themselves as a producer of high quality treadmills as recommended by a number of fitness industry experts and authorities.

Priced between $1,500 and $2,300 they are not the cheapest treadmills around but I still believe that they are great value for money. As I have said many times before, you generally get what you pay for when it comes to treadmills so if you think the pacemaster treadmills are too expensive I would suggest you ask yourself exactly what it is you are looking for in a treadmill and make you own choice from there.

In my opinion if you can't or don't want to spend over $1,000 on a decent treadmill then now is not the right time to buy. Although a treadmill might be only $800 the backend costs like repairs, maintenance and labor can make it a very expensive, unreliable machine indeed.

But I digress...

Manufactured by Aerobics Inc, Pacemaster have some of the best fitness equipment brains behind their products. Including the legendary Bill Staub and Dr. Kenneth Cooper who's exercise science principles help produce each and every treadmill. With this brains trust used in the development of the Pacemaster range you can expect a true high quality product!

The warranty of these treadmills are testament to the quality with lifetime warranty on the frame, 5 years on parts, 1 year on labor and a massive 12 years for the motor. This is a fantastic warranty that is hard to find in even some of the commercial treadmill brands.

Advantages

Pacemaster treadmills have been developed by some of the best minds in the fitness equipment industry and the quality of their treadmills is testament to that. The extended warranty should satisfy even the most demanding user and their competitive prices make them a very good value for money buy.

Disadvantages

I have looked hard for any weaknesses in this brand but can't find any. The only thing that I should point out is that this mid-price range that the pacemaster treadmills fall into ($1,500-$2,300) is very competitive with a number of other brands producing exceptional quality machines as well.

It might pay to compare these treadmills with other similar priced treadmills to find one that best suits your needs (check out my own treadmill ratings).

Recommendation

I highly recommend Pacemaster treadmills for their high quality and extended warranties. If the price is too high then there are other comparable brands with slightly cheaper treadmills that you should consider.

?You are only as old as you feel,? goes the popular saying. Have you ever encountered someone who is approaching or just passed a ?milestone,? birthday (40, 50, 60, etc.) and it seems like overnight he or she suddenly appears much older? The reach of the mind in regards to aging might be much more powerful than you suspect.

It is widely known that in less technologically advanced societies that a voodoo priest or medicine man can place a curse on someone which results in illness and sometimes death. The belief system is the mechanism by which this works. If the medicine man is confident in his ability to conjure up the spell and the victim is equally convinced, the victim?s mind makes the unconscious adjustments to alter the body in a negative way. We might find belief in such apparent superstitions to be laughable, but what belief systems do most of us buy into when it comes to getting older?

Basically, most of us expect to become stiff, forgetful and cranky with the passage of years. This message is reinforced by the myriad of pharmaceutical ads we are assaulted with on a daily basis which insist that functional life is not possible in our later life without their costly products. Yet is this true?

Much of what people fear about aging can be averted to a large degree by behaviors which we control. Feeling stiff? Is it age or the fact you don?t exercise on a regular basis? Feeling forgetful? Could it be that spending all of your spare time watching TV is not providing your brain with enough stimulation to remain vibrant and active? And a good mood is the result of taking care of your stress and making the effort to connect with others in a meaningful way.

This is not to say that the aging process is not a reality. Biologists tell us that our cells appear to be programmed with a certain life expectancy. It is also true that youth kind of gives us a pass, at least for awhile, on the consequences of unhealthy behaviors. Nonetheless, your choices as to attitude and behavior will largely determine if your golden years are a pleasant experience or not.

Hypnosis is an effective tool for changing attitude and behavior. If you want to look and feel younger you must first get past the cultural brainwashing that paints a picture of an inevitable decline over which you have no control. There are too many examples of individuals who shined in their later years like Michelangelo who did his best painting in his senior years to accept that idea. Set a positive intention to actually do something constructive along the lines of exercise, diet and proper hydration.

You may also wish to consider learning and practicing some type of mind/body practice like self-hypnosis or meditation to help you control stress. It is well-documented that continual stress creates negative changes in our physiology that can accelerate the aging process. Being able to enter a relaxed state of mind and body on a regular basis can actually reduce the wear and tear on your cells.

The various forms of meditation can enable you to enter this type of restorative state at will. Hypnosis and self-hypnosis have the added advantage in that you can also reprogram the behaviors and attitudes needed for a more youthful state while you relax.

Depression is something that will occur in many people's lives, for various reasons. But the normal occurrence of a plunge in mood due to stressful events in your life, usually doesn't last very long, before a person's natural resilience responds to the environment of friends and family.

Treatment for depression and anxiety may be needed if you experience persistent, multiple symptoms for more than two weeks. These may include a combination of half or more of the following:

* Sleeplessness, insomnia

* Ongoing negative moods for no reason

* Lack of energy or ambition

* Feeling helpless or worthless

* Believing nobody cares

* Hyper states like edginess or nervousness

* Inability to make decisions or concentrate on things

* Physical aches and pains that don't go away

* Suicidal thoughts

Depending on the condition of a depressed person, they may require admission to a depression treatment center, where they can be monitored while receiving psychological counseling and medication therapy.

Depression is an emotional disorder, and nothing to be ashamed of. But often, people who are depressed are suffering from negative thoughts about themselves, and the illness can feed on that.

If you recognize five or more of the above symptoms in someone you love, talk to them about how they feel. If they won't talk to you, go to their family, friends, or even their doctor.

Treatment may be as simple as counseling and medication that can be undertaken while in their own environment, or the doctor may recommend a short stay in a depression treatment facility to get them back on an even keel.

The medications available have redefined the treatment for depression and anxiety, giving patients a break from the emotional state that is weighing them down, while they receive therapy to resolve the issues that caused their illness.

Information on Adult Acne

Adult acne is a much more common problem than may people, especially sufferers, think. Many adults will suffer from acne at one point during their adult lives and the problem can be just as serious for them as it can be for adults. Treatment techniques are basically the same regardless of your age and these include eating healthily, taking vitamin and nutritional supplements, cleansing your skin and regular washing. You should never pick your pimples as tempting though it may be and you may want to consider using a specialist skin cleanser. There are a large number of acne 'treatments' on the market and people have made good reports about several of these.

Acne, in general, is one of the most common medical problems in the world and it is estimated that 30% of all visits to dermatologists will be due to acne. However, because the world looks at acne as a teen problem they fail to realize the mental anguish that adult sufferers can face. Adult acne can lead to serious depression and social anxiety as grown men and women become afraid to go out in public.

There are a large number of natural botanical remedies to help with adult acne that you may want to consider trying. Dandelion and Burdock are both proven to help as are Lavender, Dock Root, Turmeric and Strawberry Leaves. There are many more natural solutions that are very easy to find and even easier to incorporate into your daily lives.

The exact causes of adult acne, like teen acne, remain unknown. Certainly hormones have a big part to play in people of any age contracting acne but the exact relation nobody knows. Because of it's similarity, though, the treatments and prevention for adult acne are virtually identical to those of teen acne and are easy to use or follow.

Adult acne really is a lot more widespread than you might imagine. 25% of adult men and up to as many as 50% of adult women are expected to suffer from adult acne at some point during their adult lives. It really is a lot more common than you probably imagine and there is no reason to be ashamed by it.

Coenzyme Q10 often called COQ10, is natural substance found in the cells of your body and is involved in many different cell processes, but primarily involved in energy production. There has been a significant amount of research involving COQ10 and its impact on human health. Deficiencies of COQ10 can be far reaching and involve many different systems in your body. Some of the possible consequences of COQ10 deficiency include:

 Heart Disease- Some studies indicate that there is more COQ10 in the heart muscles tissue than any other muscle in the body. CoQ10 deficiencies has been seen in patients with hypertension, mitral valve prolapse, angina pectoris (chest pain), congestive heart failure, coronary artery disease, cardiomyopathy and even in post revascularization patients. Many physicians now add COQ10 to the treatment regimen to a significant portion of the heart disease patients in their practice.

 Cholesterol Reducing Medications- There is a significant body of evidence that demonstrates drugs in the ?statin? class such as Lipitor, Vytorin, Zocor, Pravachol, Mevacor, and Lescol reduce your body?s stores of COQ10. Many physicians now feel that most patients taking a ?statin? should also take a COQ10 supplement to prevent their heart muscle from becoming COQ10 deficient.

 Obesity- Several Studies in the US and abroad have demonstrated that patients that are obese are often deficient in Coenzyme Q10.

 Gum Disease- Gum Biopsies in patients with periodontal disease show below normal levels of COQ10.

 Muscular Dystrophy- Patients with hereditary muscular dystrophy showed a marked decrease in COQ10 though-out the muscles in their body.

 Parkinson?s Disease- Patients with Parkinson?s disease have decreased levels of COQ10.

If you have a diagnosis of any of these conditions or are taking any of the following types of medication: Statins such as Lipitor or Zocor, Fibrates such as Tricor or Lopid, Diuretics or beta blockers for hypertension, or a tricyclic antidepressant, you could likely benefit from a high quality, pharmaceutical grade Coenzyme Q10 supplement.

The Bent-Over Lateral Raise is one of the most common exercises used for working the rear or posterior deltoids. For most trainers, it can be difficult to really feel the rear delts working during this movement as the larger, stronger muscles of the back have a tendency to take over.

To really get the most out of this exercise, you need to remove the back muscles from the equation. This can be easily accomplished with a simple technique.

How to Do It:

First, get yourself into position for the Bent-Over Lateral Raise. This can either be standing, seated or with your chest on an incline bench. The same technique applies to all variations.

Your arms should be hanging straight down in the start position.

Now, drop your shoulders down towards the ground without moving your torso. You will be keeping them down throughout the exercise. This forces the back muscles into a stretched position, thereby reducing their involvement in the exercise.

Once your shoulders are dropped, start the movement by doing a reverse wrist curl with the dumbells. This means simply bending your wrists back and up and holding them there.

Now squeeze the weights up to the top position of the lateral so that they are in line with your head at the top and squeeze hard at the top.

Here is an excellent tip for the way up: as you raise the dumbells, imagine as though you are trying to wrap the backs of your arms around a tree. You?ve often heard that you should try to wrap your arms around a tree for dumbell flyes, now apply it to this movement.

Also, try to force your hands into as wide of an arc as possible and keep the dumbells as far away from your body as possible. This technique will help you to keep your shoulders down as you lift the weights.

What all these tips accomplish is to reduce the ability of the stronger back muscles to contract during the exercise, forcing the rear delt muscles to shoulder the burden of the exercise.

The keys to remember are:

  • Shoulders down throughout the movement.

  • Do a reverse wrist curl at the start.

  • Wrap your arms around a tree on the way up.

  • Raise the dumbells up in line with your head.

Incorporating these tips into the bent-over lateral movement will target your rear delts like a laser beam!

  • LowCarb Diet Should I or Shouldn't I?

It's no wonder that confusion reigns when it comes to the worth and reliability of low-carb diets after all the conflicting studies and confusing interpretation of the information. It seems like debates are popping up everywhere!

No matter if it's Atkins, South Beach or some other low-carb plan, there are approximately 30 million Americans are on a low-carb diet.

Supporters contend that the large amount of carbohydrates in our diet has led to increased problems with obesity, diabetes, and other health situations. On the other hand, some attribute obesity and related health problems to over eating of calories and lack of physical activity. They also express concern that without grains, fruits, and vegetables in low-carbohydrate diets may lead to deficiencies of some key nutrients, including vitamin C, fiber, folic acid, and many minerals.

It is already known that any diet, whether high or low in carbohydrates, can produce meaningful weight loss during the early stages of the diet. Keep in mind, the key to a diet being successful is in being able to lose the weight on a permanent basis.

Let's see if we can expose some of the mystery about low-carb diets. Following, is a listing of some related points taken from recent studies and scientific literature.

Point 1 - Some Differences Between Low-Carb Diets

There are many famous diets created to lower carbohydrate consumption. Lowering total carbohydrates in the diet means that protein and fat will take up a proportionately greater amount of the total caloric intake.

Low carbohydrate diet like the Atkins Diet restrict carbohydrate to a point where the body becomes ketogenic (a high-fat, low-carbohydrate diet that includes normal amounts of protein). Other low-carb diets like the Zone and Life Without Bread are less confined. Some, like Sugar Busters announce only to eliminate sugars and foods that elevate blood sugar levels excessively.

Point 2 - What We Know about Low-Carb Diets

+Close to all of the studies to date have been small with a diversity of research objectives. Carbohydrate, caloric intake, diet duration and participant characteristics are wide-ranged greatly. Most of the studies to date have two things in common, none of the research studies had people in the study with a average age over 53 and none of the controlled studies lasted more than 90 days.

+The results on older adults and long-term results are scarce. Many diet studies fail to keep track of the amount of exercise, and therefore caloric use, while people in the study are dieting. This helps to explain the variances between studies.

+If you lose weight on a low-carb diet it is a function of the calorie intake and length of the diet, and not with reduced amount of carbohydrates.

+There is very little evidence on the long-range safety of low-carb diets. Even though the medical community has concerns, no short-term bad effects have been found with cholesterol, glucose, insulin and blood-pressure levels among the people in the study on the diets. Because of the short period of the studies the adverse effects may not show up. Losing weight typically leads to improvement in these levels, and this may offset an increase caused by a high fat diet. The over-all weight changes for low-carb and other types of diets are similar.

+Most low-carb diets can cause ketosis. Nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, and confusion are some of the potential consequences. When first starting a low-carb diet some fatigue and constipation may be met and these symptoms usually disappear quickly.

+Some report that you can have more calories when on a low-carb diet. Remember a calorie is a calorie no matter what you intake. When the study is not closely supervised variations will result by people cheating in the study on many factors of the study.

There are three important factors I would like to re-emphasize:

1.- The over-all success rate for low-carb and other types of diets are similar.

2.- Small amount of information exists on the long-term efficacy and safety of low-carb diets despite their huge popularity,

3.- Dieters usually experience boredom with a strict version of the low-carb diet and are not able to stay on diets of low carb food.

After observing the subject, a more severe and controlled study are needed on a long-range basis. The ketosis produced is abnormal and stressful metabolic state. The results may cause more problems than it solved.

By picking a reliable diet you will benefit over a lifetime of proper eating and not a weight loss quickie. An excellent rule of thumb is look at the diet long-range and see if you can see yourself still on that diet after a couple of weeks. However, by following a diet with fat, carbohydrates, protein and other nutrients in moderation may be the best way to go and a little more exercise won't hurt either.

Acne In Teens The Do's and Don'ts!

Acne in teens is very common. It usually appears at the onset of puberty and can be quite distressing for teenagers.

When the body begins producing hormones, the tiny oil glands known as sebaceous glands at the root of the hair follicle become over-active. This excess oil combine with the normal shedding of dead skin cells cause the pores to become clogged. The oil and bacteria trapped within a pore is the beginning of a pimple. It usually takes about two weeks for a pimple to surface which is why you can often 'feel' them before you see them.

There are many myths and misconceptions associated with the development of acne in teens - junk food, poor hygiene and even masturbation! Absolutely none of these ideas are true.

You do not 'cause' acne. Hormone development is a fact of life and there is nothing that you can do about it. However, you can do something about the resulting acne. A good, consistent, skin care program can make a world of difference!

Acne is not caused by lack of cleanliness and excessive washing can exasperate the problem. Gently wash twice a day using warm water, a soft facecloth and a mild, hypoallergenic soap. Never scrub! You may even wish to try one of several very good acne skin care programs on the market designed specifically to control acne.

Most acne in teens responds well to over-the-counter products containing benzoyl peroxide. This ingredient is available in a number of different lotions and creams. The percentage of available benzoyl peroxide varies among brands. Choose a product with the highest concentration possible - usually around ten percent. Always test a dab on an inconspicuous part of your body to see if there is any reaction. Use only what you need to 'spot treat' the areas affected. Benzoyl peroxide can cause excessive drying of the skin if you use too much.

Although it is difficult, resist the urge to 'pop' pimples. This will only aggravate your acne by spreading the bacteria to other areas. It can also lead to permanent scarring.

It is better not to wear any makeup at all but if you do, choose cosmetics labeled 'noncomedogenic'. They are specially formulated not to promote acne. Never go to bed without removing your makeup!

There are many options available today for treating and controlling acne in teenagers. If you find that you are having little success with your present skin care routine, visit the Acne Skin Care Guide for help.

A cosmetic case that won?t zip closed, that basketful of make-up on your bathroom counter, the vanity drawer crammed with products and colors you?re saving just in case. We all have a stockpile of make-up that is either impractical, a little too glitzy or just plain old. You don?t need to stockpile your cosmetics. In fact, you really shouldn?t for a few very good reasons.

    WHY?

Your beauty supplies may not be marked with a specified shelf life, but they have one. Write purchase or throw away date on bottom new products with a permanent marker. Old products are not safe, do not wear correctly and subtle changes in color may occur.

Cleansers/Moisturizers - good for six months.

Foundation - six month shelf life if applied with fingertips, one year if applied with a sponge.

    Lipstick - one year.

Eye and Lip Pencils - one year.

Powders and stick concealers - one year.

Eye shadow and blush - two years.

Mascara - good for three months

    WHEN?

Shop when seasons change - new season, new colors ? when products have gotten old, and when things are on sale. Keep an eye on those pharmacy and department store circulars. You can find great deals if you're a smart shopper.

    WHERE?

Local pharmacy/health and beauty chains are convenient and inexpensive. Shop sales, sometimes you can even buy two items for the price of one. Department stores with high end products and trained cosmetologists often have giveaways.

Look for in-store banners. Some product lines will even mail you invitations/reminders for sales. A purchase as small as lipstick may get you a goodie bag full of trial and even full size products. If you shop during bonus events, you'll get your money?s worth.

Independent Beauty Consultants are in everywhere. There are good products available, but be prepared. These sales people are often friends and it?s hard to say no when a friend must meet a sales quota. If you can stick to buying only what you need, this is a great way to get individualized service in the comfort of your own home.

On-line beauty catalogs may save you a lot of money. But you need to do your research first. Only purchase make-up that you have used in the past. Orange pancake foundation is still orange and thick, even if it was on sale. HOW?

Carefully and with an honest friend at your side. Take someone with you who has your best interests at heart. Trust your friend?s opinions, and don?t get upset if she tells you not to buy that gold shimmer lip gloss.

There are many, many ways to look great and not spend too much... develop your own unique personal style.

Every one of us wants to remain fit and fine.

Here are some basic tips to remain healthy:

    Exercise Regularly

    1. Walking on the green grass in the early morning improves your eye sight.

    2. Have a brisk wall for at least 5 days a week for minimum 35 minutes a day. Remember your calories start burning after 20 minutes of brisk walk. It means waking lesser than 20 minutes will not give your desired results. Alternatively, you should walk Ten Thousand step daily (it will be approximately equivalent to 6 kilometers).

    3. Keep your self physically active e.g. avoid lifts and use stairs as far as possible.

    4. Avoid using 2 wheelers/4 wheelers when you are to go out for shorter distances say 1-2 kilometers. Either go on foot or use bicycle.

    5. Your exercise must include one for the lungs.

    6. Keep your weight under control and remove fat around your waist.

    7. Exercise your brain - solve puzzles, Su Doku etc.

    Eat Healthy

    1. Drink a lot of water.

    2. Avoid spicy, fatty and junk foods.

    3. If possible, change over from 3 meal system to taking smaller quantity of food 5-6 times.

    4. Cold drinks/Tinned beverages are not good for health. In summer try lemon water. It is cool and healthy and energizer.

    5. Eat more green salad, sprouted beans and fruits.

    6. Use milk, cheese, cream, curd having minimum fat content.

    7. Always eat less than your actual hunger. Don't fill to your full stomach.

    8. Don't take liquor too much. It affects you liver and kidneys.

    Entertain Yourself

    1. Listen music, play with the children, give time to your pets. At least give 45 minutes to good reading/listening music and other activities of your choice.

    2. SMILE - IT INCREASES YOUR FACE VALUE. Not only that - laughing also reduces your tension and increases your efficiency. So laugh a lot - switch on the TV channels which are full of laughter and the serials which are based on lighter and funnier side of the life.

    3. During weekly offs, go to a place of your choice.

    Change Your Behavior

    1. If God is listening to your prayers, He is enhancing your faith, If He is delaying, He is enhancing your patience and if He is not listening at all, He has certainly thought something better for you.

    2. Avoid anger, it eats up your energy and adds to your tension. In case you feel yourself angry, behave like a tea-kettle. Don't you know that tea-kettle whistles when it is boiling?

    3. To avoid tension, keep your thinking positive. Remember, you can't change the whole world with you. Environment will not adjust with you, you will have to adjust with the environment.

    4. If things are not moving the way you want, say to yourself: If it is so, it can't be otherwise.

So health is combination of activity, healthy eating, leisure and internal attitude plus spirituality.

Following a diet program of any sort can sometimes be restricting depending on different circumstances. A Strict diet program can be hard to stick to and the best diet programs are the diet programs that you can definitely stick with for the rest of your life.

The best advice for a diet program is a healthy balanced diet using all food groups, drink plenty of water and exercise very regularly. Sticking with this type of diet program is not restricting in any way and gives you a huge variety of foods to choose from. Watch your fat intake and really stop and think about what you are about to put into your mouth. You know if you are eating junk or eating a healthy diet.

It?s up to you at the end of the day to educate yourself on what type of diet program is ridiculous and which are sensible and maintainable for a lifetime. The secret is exercise. Your diet program simply must include exercise if you want the best results in the shortest possible time. With so much confusing information in the market about exactly what a healthy diet is; it?s little wonder people fumble and end up so frustrated they don?t know what a healthy diet means anymore!

Here?s some basic steps to a healthy diet that you start to implement right now.

A healthy diet should be balanced and includes all food groups. This means lots of fresh fruits, vegetables, whole-grains, low fat dairy products and of course heaps of water!

A healthy diet should be low in saturated fats, trans fat and cholesterol. Your daily fat intake should come mainly from nuts, fish, and vegetable oils. Try to keep your fat intake to 20-35% of your daily intake of calories for a healthy diet.

Eat lots of different types of fruits and vegetables for the really healthy diet. At least 2 cups of fruit and 2-3 cups of vegetables. It?s easy! Limit the number of high processed foods such as biscuits, lollies, chips etc. For a truly healthy diet?it?s everything in moderation!

Include a good variety of whole-grains each day for fibre. Keeps you clean on the inside!

A healthy diet is not hard?if you keep it in moderation. Don?t overdo any of the food groups?just mix them and make sure you drink plenty of water. For a healthy diet?watch the intake of alcohol. One drink a day for women, two a day for men.

Garcinia cambogia is a natural weight loss supplement that is making headlines in North America and Europe. Though not a magic bullet by any means, studies show that garcinia cambogia can be effective in helping people lose weight in two basic ways ? first, it blocks the conversion of sugar and refined carbohydrates into fat during metabolism, and second, it may help suppress appetite by raising the brain chemical level of serotonin. Seratonin is a substance that we get by eating certain foods ? turkey is the most famous example, but by no means the only one ? and it also calms you down.

This is very significant, because some studies indicate that overweight people overeat because they feel anxious, and the serotonin in food is a way for them to self-soothe in order to calm down. If serotonin can be obtained by taking garcinia cambogia, people who engage in this type of adaptive overeating may well be able to overcome their problem. The active ingredient in garcinia cambogia ? the ingredient that causes these effects ? is known as HCA. It has been tested in a lab situation, and on both human and animal subjects.

Though there are those that swear by it, at this point, there is a bit of confusion over whether garcinia cambogia really does help people lose weight. To date, several studies have been done, but evidence is mixed. Almost ten years ago, one study was done of 60 individuals, and it did seem as though they lost more weight as compared to people who took a placebo. However, subsequent tests didn?t yield the same result. One suggestion is that this might be because the people in that test were on a high-fiber diet. That may be true, because the fiber could conceivably have swept the supplement from the body too soon, before it could do its work. Overall, however, most studies do show that there is some weight loss with the use of garcinia cambogia, and that this is accelerated if a low carbohydrate diet is followed. The diet need not be as low in carbs as Atkins, however; the important thing seems to be to avoid excessive sugars and refined carbohydrates. If you do that, then the supplement can take care of any sugars that you do eat, preventing them from being turned into fat.

Garcinia cambogia is a natural substance; it comes from the rind of a fruit that is grown in India and parts of Africa. Apparently, it was a folk remedy in those parts that was discovered by westerners in the past few decades, and refined into a form that can be easily taken as a dietary supplement. Though garcinia cambogia may well make you lose weight, and should be considered particularly if you tend to eat out of a sense of anxiety (that is, if you eating tends to be emotional rather than hunger-based) and if you, furthermore, tend to accumulate weight around your belly. Belly fat, besides being unattractive, is a bad thing from a health standpoint too. It usually indicates that your insulin levels are not adequately dealing with the level of sugar and starch that you are consuming, so these substances are being turned into fat instead. Over time, this means that you may be at higher risk of contracting diabetes, because that disorder is also caused by insufficient in inefficient insulin response.

Furthermore, carrying weight around the belly (like diabetes itself) is a risk factor for heart disease. To avoid contracting either of these potentially fatal conditions, try to regulate your intake of sugars and refined starches. Garcinia cambogia can help, too ? it doesn?t regulate insulin response, but it can help you avoid accumulating fat in that area by stopping the formation of fat as a result of sugar and starch intake.

Garcinia cambogia is available from a variety or retail or internet sources. There are several brands available, with little difference between them. However, if you have a naturopath or natural pharmacy that you trust, you would do well to ask them about the specific product that they recommend. There are no known side effects of garcinia cambogia, so you can feel free to take it without worrying about any ill effects.

    Causes of High Blood Pressure

Does anyone know what really causes high blood pressure? It is quite difficult to distinguish whether symptoms stem from high blood pressure or are just mere coincidences. Things are less simple for less obviously absurd cases.

Studies show many different kinds of secondary high blood pressure where the primary causes may be quite different from the continuing causes. An example is a rare disease known as coarctation of the aorta, a disease of the large artery carrying blood out of the heart. In this condition, the aorta is tightly constricted a few inches beyond its origin and then expands to its normal diameter. Undoubtedly, blood pressure must rise above the constriction and fall below it, just as it does when one compresses a hosepipe. Yet, if this constriction is removed surgically and the normal continuity of the aorta is restored, blood pressure usually takes several years to fall to normal level. The initial case of high blood pressure is the constriction, but the continuing cause is probably complex changes in circulating hormones, which function to maintain blood flow through the kidneys despite the obstruction, which may persist for a long time even after the obstruction, has gone.

Aside from the genetic pathogenesis of the disease, there is profound evidence that there are several factors which are true and independent causes of high blood pressure. These factors are obesity, high sodium intake, low potassium intake and a high alcohol intake. The effect they have varies in most cases depending on heredity; they have a much greater effect on people whose families have an increased prevalence of high blood pressure than on people form families with mostly low blood pressure. This will happen sooner in young people and later in middle-aged and elderly people. Evidence of these causes is consistent and convincing. However, that does not eliminate the possibility of other causes present in some people, of which the most obvious and important are psychical, psychological and social stresses.

The theory that physical and psychological stress is the root cause of most high blood pressure was very popular in the 1960s and 1970s, but research since then has proved it not to be true. There may be a minority of people with high blood pressure, for whom it is the main cause, but it fails to explain most cases. Extensive studies have looked for an association between the so-called type A personality (people who are described as ambitious, aggressive and time-conserved) and high blood pressure, but none can be found. Instead, it was found that very nervous people have normal or even low blood pressure but many easygoing people have dangerously high blood pressures. On the other hand, there is a tendency for some people with depression to have raised blood pressures, falling when depression ends, either simultaneously or after treatment for depression. Obviously, there are many other good reasons for avoiding social and psychological stresses, regardless of any ill effects on blood pressure. Even if they are not directly causing high blood pressure, they inevitably affect your capacity to cope with treatment and you should make sure that your physician is aware of them.

    Protopic Cancer Risk Lawyer

The FDA issued a warning in July of 2005 on two skin creams, Elidel (pimecrolimus) and Protopic (tacrolimus) to all ages. Recent animal studies have found that Protopic causes lymphomas and skin cancers in an unknown percentage of users. The FDA recommends that healthcare providers be very careful prescribing and applying these medications.

Protopic belongs to the class of medications called immunosuppressants. This kind of medication is used on short-term basis to treat atopic dermatitis, or eczema. The cream works on certain areas of the immune system that may be involved in developing this serious skin condition. It is used only if other, safer treatments have not worked or cannot be used for some reason. It is sometimes prescribed for off-label uses, but you should discuss this with your doctor and make sure you know why you are using Protopic.

The risk this drug poses to developing children is as of yet unknown. While a lower dosage Protopic cream is available for younger children, the FDA recommends that children and pregnant women refrain from using the medication. If you are a patient using Protopic cream and you have developed skin abnormalities, lymphomas, or skin caner, talk to a lawyer right away. Since the FDA has recognized Protopic as a dangerous drug, you could be entitled to damages from the drug company.

    Acne and Water

Water can be considered the most essential element for life and functioning of the human body. The body is made up of roughly 70% - 75% water while the cells consist of 65-90% water by weight.

Most people simply do not get enough of this vital liquid. As a general rule, 6-8 glasses of water a day should be consumed and more if you are involved very physically during the day from work or exercise.

If you really want to feel the beneficial effects of water you should drink half your body weight in ounces daily as stated in one of many water cures. If for example you weight 150 Lbs, you would drink 75 ounces of water a day. An average glass is around 8 ounces, so you would need to drink roughly 9-10 glasses of water a day.

To avoid upsetting your bodies electrolyte balance by consuming large amounts of water, you can add 1/4 of a tsp. of sea salt to every quart of water you drink. Be sure to use unprocessed sea salt that contain most minerals and not regular table salt.

Some of the biggest water-depleters are coffee, alcohol, soft drinks. Some water is lost through breathing and water is lost from exercise, depending on the intensity of the workout.

Without water, the bodies cells begin to dehydrate and impairs their ability to function properly. They are unable to remove metabolic waste efficiently and begin to accumulate toxins which can cause pores in the skin to become clogged and cause acne.

Other than the cells, your kidneys and liver require adequate water for proper waste elimination. When you drink enough water, toxins can be flushed through these elimination channels and not through the pores of the skin.

Another function of the liver is to eliminate excess hormones from the body. When the kidneys are overloaded, they require the liver to deal with excess toxins. Excess hormones, especially androgens cause the sebaceous glands to produce too much sebum (skin oil) which is another cause of acne.

When the body doesn't have enough water for it's many functions, it tries to conserve water which is known as water retention. Water retention puts pressure on the skin cells also causing the pores to become blocked. This also is another major cause of acne.

Processed salt is another chemical that causes water retention. To eliminate salt from the body you need a good suply of clean water.

between them, toxins, water retention and excess hormones are considered the 3 biggest causes of acne and all can be reversed with adequate water consumption.

Apart from helping to clear your acne, when you give your body the water it needs you may find many other ailments start to dissapear like cellulite, excess weight, headaches, pains and so many others it would be impossible to list them all here.

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

To effectively treat your acne, you need to fix the problems in your body that are causing your acne. Acuzine is a great product that attacks the main, internal causes of acne.

If you?ve ever been in love, you understand the metaphor. But did you know that there are actual physical, measurable indications of that truth?

In studies using electrocardiograms (again, from information provided by Joseph Chilton Pearce, with his permission) it has been shown that a mother and child, when separated, will have different heart rhythms and rates, but when brought to close proximity, their electrocardiograms will match.

It?s not limited to Mother and offspring. Other studies have been done that showed a person in emotional distress could go to a person for comfort and, while being held, their heart would fall into rate and rhythm with the person holding them. The affected person, taking the ?energetic? lead from the comforting person, would calm down.

This is called ?entrainment.? Entrain literally means, ?To pull or draw along after itself.? Metaphorically, that is one way of describing what healers do: pull or draw along people in need through a challenge or crisis.

On an energetic level, using heart-consciousness is a powerful force. On its own, the heart projects a measurable electromagnetic field surrounding the body for a distance of twelve feet or more. This field is so powerful that in a study it was found you could literally do an electrocardiograph reading of heart activity from three feet away -- without wires! Further studies have shown that some individuals have control of how intense the field is, or how far it can project.

I?m sure you can recall many a time when you?ve walked into a room and suddenly been ?drawn to? a particular person or group of people because there was, literally, the feeling of an energetic pull, or attraction. Something in you was naturally attuned to something out there and you needed to be close to it.

This is not a one-sided relationship. Whether we are conscious of it or not, we are both sending AND receiving signals from our hearts back and forth to each other. Witness how you can sometimes be walking behind someone and you know they are ?in a mood.? We know it?s there, because we do get it in glimpses. It?s just a matter of strengthening our abilities to actively use heart-consciousness in our lives.

As a paramedic, I was ?tricked? into a state of heart-consciousness by compassion. I would find myself in the midst of an emergency and some facet of the circumstances and/or patient would strike me so personally that I united my own will to live with theirs. I attained a deep connection to the other?s experience on a very primal level.

In that state I found myself able to juggle what appears to be two different worlds. While riding the waves of the other person?s emotions ? which, essentially are expressions of their life?s force ? I would also be able to sort and assimilate physical data, and then make appropriate choices for emergency intervention.

In an emergency, the key to effectiveness is getting the patients into a state to where they can accept the treatment you?re offering. The more receptive the patient, the more effective will be your treatment. One way is to overcome the body?s natural responses (abject fear, for example) by administering medications.

Another way is to connect with the person and, using the moment-to-moment cues you get, move his or her attention off of themselves and on to you as a sort of focal point for their hope. From there, you build bridges that help bring the patient into a more favorable state for healing to begin. In that case, you actually become ?partners? in the healing process.

When I was able to attain a connection like that, I had some amazing experiences. If I had to put them all in a blender, the conclusion would come out that a part of me would receive information from a part of them that would help, if not lead, me to take the most effective next step in their care.

I?ve come to the conclusion that our hearts were in communication and telling each (and both!) of our heads what to do next.

This has been my same experience while working in personal growth workshops and counseling. After having established a connection with the person I was with, I found myself reaching into my past experience and pulling out an obscure ?happening? in my life as an example or illustration. We?re talking something like ?It popped out of my mouth? more than something that I consciously searched for!

In those times, whatever I brought forth was so on target with the person?s next step toward transformation/healing we were both astounded! Out of moments like those, I, too, experienced a form of healing -- to realize that every moment of my own life can find its place to heal others.

When you gain practice in getting in touch with the consciousness of your heart, you will be able to strengthen what I call the ?muscles of choice? that have to do with projecting and receiving that energy. With more practice, you can read what comes to you from others much better, and use that to influence how and when the intelligent energy that is your heart expands and contracts, and who it affects and how.

In our last installment, we?ll discuss heart-consciousness and the healer.

All About Acne and Blemish Control

A common problem that affects most of us as teens is acne. While 80 percent of us struggle with this affliction, many have trouble controlling it. Acne blemish control typically begins with assessing the problem at hand. Most of us don't have a clue how to properly fight pimples and breakouts, therefore we take a clueless route, which only begets more acne. Acne blemish control is done through understanding and proper skin care.

I'm sure many people recall the hardships of their adolescent years. The insecurities, the hormones, the pizza face. When I first noticed a pimple on my face, I did what most naive teens do, and popped it. This is a mistake on several levels. First of all, popping a blemish can cause scaring. In addition, when you pinch or squeeze a zit, you only irritate it further. A more efficient road would be to treat it with some form of acne blemish control. There are a deluge of products gracing the drugstore shelves these days. Controlling and destroying our acne doesn't have to be so painful.

To become better educated on acne blemish control, it is prudent to seek advice from a dermatologist. They can give you proper guidance in controlling your breakouts. There are a number of prescriptions available to fight this ego crusher. Back in high school, my best friend was severely affected by acne breakouts. He was that guy people made fun of and called pizza face and blemish boy. Not only was his face covered, but he had the classic backne as well. I could tell that this was a huge shot to his self confidence. A large problem was his acne blemish control method. He would literally wash his face six times a day. This is overkill, which results in severe drying. Eventually he found a remedy through a dermatology clinic.

A great source to resort to today is the Internet. You can find an abundance of information on skin types, and levels of acne. Acne blemish control no longer consists of rubbing alcohol on a zit you just popped. There are solutions and treatments galore at your very reach. Whether you're looking for a mild exfoliant to cure your breakouts, or a three step system to deal with more severe blemishes, you will find a remedy online. If you wish to get a more immediate treatment, the drugstore down the street will likely carry a variety of acne fighters.

    9 Major Hemorrhoid Causes

What is the main cause of hemorrhoids? We can blame our modern life style as the main cause. Today we know that lack of foods high in fiber, insufficient water intake and lack of movement are the main causes. One other likely cause is genetics, it is quite possible to inherit a predisposition to develop hemorrhoids.

Hemorrhoids causes can be divided in 9 major groups:

    1. Improper diet - Shortage of high fiber food in our every day diet and insufficient water intake, too much coffle, sodas and alcohol causes dehydration.

    2. Wrong bowel movement habits - Delaying and straining during bowel movement and reading during bowel movement.

    3. Everyday activities - Too much sitting or standing, causing pressure on veins in the rectum area, driving to work instead taking a public transport, bike or walking lack of exercise.

    4. Lack of personal hygiene - Not washing up after the bowel movements, excessive wiping, using paper instead of washing up or using moist vipes with Witch Hazel.

    5. Pregnancy - Changes caused by hormones along with amplified pressure of fetus on the veins in anal canal.

    6. Obesity - Excess weight causes pressure on veins in anal canal.

    7. Health conditions - Anal infection, liver or heart disease, or even tumors in the pelvic area.

    8. Excessive rubbing and cleaning around anus- Do not use toilet paper, wash up after bowel movements or use moist towels.

    9. Ageing - Not your fault, just make sure to eat plenty of foods high in fiber, fruits, vegetables and drink lots of water.

Anything of the above can be the cause of hemorrhoids, usually it is several of these causes combined that are the problem.

Examine what you might be doing wrong:

    -Analyze your diet.
    -Do you exercise enough?
    -Do you drink enough water?
-Do you have a job that requires lots of sitting or standing in place?

It is not simple admitting to yourself that you are doing something wrong. I know that some of this causes are hard for you to hear and I know that most of us have jobs were you can not set aside time for a good meal.

In addition, drinking lots of water will cause more frequent urination, and not all of us have access to decent bathrooms while working or commuting.

It takes little effort to remove hemorrhoid causes in our modern everyday lifes, even if we think that some factors are out of our control, when actually they are not.

With small effort you can eliminate most causes and entirely avoid pricey and agonizing operation. All this can be done with just a small effort.

http://www.Hemorrhoids-Herbal-Medicine.com is a definite hemorrhoids site, we have years of hemorrhoid fighting experience and here you can learn all you need to know about Cause Of Hemorrhoids.

The problem of obesity has been with us since the dawn of time and for many sufferers the condition is the result of genetic or medical problems. At present, however, the alarming growth in the rate of obesity is very much a man-made problem, assisted in part perhaps by the availability, and popularity, of the gastric bypass.

Advances in surgery, not least the introduction of laparoscopic procedures, have made the gastric bypass a far easier and more acceptable solution to the problem of obesity. In addition, the profile of the gastric bypass has been raised very much in recent years helped along in no small way by the number of household names picking this form of weight loss.

The list of well known personalities taking this route is long and includes the best selling author Anne Rice, the musician and harmonica virtuoso John Popper, the footballer Diego Maradona and the music promoter and TV personality Sharon Osbourne to name just a few.

But just why is obesity growing and is it really a problem of our own making?

While there was a small rise in the rate of obesity in the years following the Second World War, the past twenty five years have seen a significant growth in obesity, especially in the US. The exact reason for this is unknown and there is reasonably wide disagreement on the cause, but here are just a few reasons over which there is general agreement.

    1. Notwithstanding the current talk about oil prices, motoring is no longer a luxury and the two car family is becoming commonplace. Today we don't think twice about getting into the car for even the shortest of journeys and many of us would not even contemplate walking to the corner shop.

    2. We have become a nation of two income households and this means that people are doing far less cooking at home. The number of people enjoying restaurant meals or opting for fast food take out or home delivery meals has risen significantly in recent years.

    3. A number of trade subsidies introduced over the last twenty five years have significantly lowered the relative cost of many items of food, not least that of sugar syrup and sugar. In turn this means that we are now consuming a lot more than we used to.

    4. The past twenty five years have seen big changes in working practices with significantly fewer people employed today in manual work and with more and more of us sitting back and letting machines do the work which we used to do or sitting all day behind a desk or at a computer.

    5. Marketing has become very sophisticated, if not subliminal, and this is especially true in the area of convenience and fast foods. Additionally, many restrictions were removed on advertisements aimed at children during the Reagan administration and many of these dealt with such things as convenience foods and sweets.

    6. Perhaps strangest of all is the effect that the craze for exercise and diet has had on the increase in obesity. As a society we have become obsessed with dieting and many people diet as often as they change their underwear. However it's a fact that virtually all diets fail and, following a diet, it is not uncommon for your weight to rise to a level even higher than it was before the diet. This pattern of rising and falling weight over time many times results in a gradual increase in weight towards obesity.

Each of the factors observed here not only add to the rise in obesity but is also plainly made-made.

Certainly gastric bypass provides one solution. All the same, even though the procedure is a lot easier than it used to be and is growing in popularity, it is still far from a pleasant experience and is certainly not risk free.

For those people who are suffering from obesity today gastric bypass constitutes an excellent solution to their problem. For our children and grandchildren however maybe the answer is to be found in preventing obesity and not sitting back and waiting for the problem to present itself before resorting to gastric bypass surgery.

    NAC Effect on Cholesterol

Cholesterol. You must have heard it from your parent or grand parent that they are suffering from bad cholesterol. Cholesterol is a sterol that is a combination of steroids and alcohol. It is a lipid that is found in cell membranes inside all body tissues. Researchers first found cholesterol in solid form in form of gallstones. It fetches its name from Greek terminology, where ?chole? meaning bile, ?stereos? meaning solid and ?ol? from the chemical suffix of alcohol.

Mostly cholesterol is not dietary in nature; it is also formed inside the body. It is present in much larger concentrations in tissues, which either produce more or have more densely packed membranes. It plays a central role in many biochemical processes inside the body and hence is of vital importance. Though a little amount is fine, but excess of everything is bad. It is the case with cholesterol, if in excess can cause major complications. It is best known for the originator for cardiovascular disease.

NAC or N-AcetyleCysteine is the amino acid L-Cysteine plus an acetyl group attached to the amino (NH2) group. It helps to speed absorption and distribution on orally ingested Cysteine. Cysteine is primarily an amino acid, which is present in proteins. N-Acetyle Cysteine is a derivative of Cysteine and is commonly found in food and is synthesized by the body. NAC is also available as a supplement and performs very important functions. These functions include breaking down mucus, producing Glutathione ? an important antioxidant, and protecting the body from acetaminophen toxicity.

NAC helps in controlling cholesterol levels. In combination with nitroglycerin, it is a drug that dilates blood vessels, helps decrease the rate of acute heart attacks in patients with angina pectoris i.e. pain in the center of chest. The primary dietary sources that can provide NAC include wheat germ, granola, oat flakes, cottage cheese, yogurt, pork, sausage meat, chicken, turkey, etc.

Normally the quantity of NAC is maintained in the body through the intake of these primary resources, but sometimes due to some bioprocesses, this level reduces and can induce cholesterol related diseases. When a person is suffering from cholesterol related disease or in other terms ?bad cholesterol? he is advised a dosage of around 1200 to 3600 mg per day. This quantity differs from patient to patient and is dependent upon the how bad the situation actually is. Persons of all age group can suffer from cholesterol related problems, but it is most common in the 35- 50 age group.

So, the next time you hear your parents or friends talking to the doctor about bad cholesterol, you know that they are talking about low-density lipoprotein or LDL as it is commonly called. Thus, you can now tell your parents or friends or any person suffering from bad cholesterol, about NAC and its advantages in curing such health related concerns.

A tracheostomy is a type of surgery used in the treatment of sleep apnea. It is a serious treatment, used as a last resort for people who either haven't had success with any other types of treatment or whose sleep apnea is severe enough to be life-threatening.

This surgery has a high success rate but it can have some serious side effects. It involves an incision being cut in the throat, through the windpipe, roughly the size of a quarter. A tube is inserted into this incision to allow easier airflow in and out of the lungs. It can lead to other health problems, both medical and psychological.

The tube that is inserted allows the air to flow freely, eliminating the sleep apnea. During the day, a valve lets the patient shut the tube to allow them to breathe and speak naturally. The valve is opened at night while asleep to allow the air to flow.

Recovery from a tracheostomy can vary - some people will take longer than others.

There are multiple risks associated with this type of surgery. Scar tissue can form where the incision is made which can lead to changes in the appearance of the person's neck.

Infections can sometimes develop where the incision is made, leading to swelling, redness and fluid drainage. Bleeding is also often a complication.

Some patients who have undergone this surgical procedure have difficulties with speech. Some have problems immediately after the surgery but show improvement with time while others have a permanent change in their speech.

A tracheostomy can also increase the chances of a lung infection.

Psychological and emotional problems can also be an issue for some patients who undergo the surgery. Self-consciousness can be an issue in some cases due to the appearance of the neck when the tube has been inserted.

After undergoing a tracheostomy, proper hygiene is very important. Keeping the neck clean and free of debris is paramount.

    Acne Products

The statistics for acne in United States alone include half the total population. Although temporary acne should never be underestimated for its ability to make life a misery, either by persisting as a problem or occasional outbreaks at a crucial time. The good news is that the market is teeming with acne products of all kinds to get rid of the unsightly presence from our faces. However caution is advised before giving any of these acne products a try to find out the root cause of the exasperating condition.

There isn?t any single factor behind acne. The belief of physicians is that when oil (sebaceous) glands strike on the onset of puberty, adrenal glands of both boys and girls are stimulated by the hormones they produce. The oil glands lie immediately below the skin in a constant secretion of oil through the skin openings. The purpose is to lubricate and protect the skin. Sometimes cells near the openings on the skin block the opening which leads to a buildup of oil under the skin. The omnipresent bacteria on human skin which is generally inactive, begin feeding on this oil before reproducing and causing inflammation of the surrounding tissues.

Acne is also caused by oil-saturated foods. However chocolate, poor skin hygiene and upset emotions have been ruled out for being responsible for acne, effectively scuttling time honored myths. Ironically enough, it is the most commonly used remedy to correct acne problems, camouflage cosmetics that are mainly to blame for worsening the condition. The mild skin alteration that most of them result in, intensifies the acne affliction. The sebaceous glands are also obstructed which hampers free drainage of excessive oils. This is frequently the case with supposed acne-prevention compounds as well.

Acne inflicted have two options, medicated and natural acne products. The medicated acne products use a low or high concentration of Benzoyl peroxide or Salicylic acid, while the content in natural acne products are herbs and natural oils like Tea Tree Oil which is antibacterial cum cleaner, Lavender Oil to counter acne and prevent oil and Rosewood oil a strong acne treating agent.

Natural acne products also include Actimine, AcnEase, Xian 100% acne treatment and 10-1E Acne Getaway which contain ancient Chinese herbs and essential ingredients capable of combating and keeping acne at bay.

Acne products in the form of cream, gel or lotion, are limited in their performance based on the medicinal concentration. Other influencing ingredients that require research and consideration the properties of quality exfoliation and pore cleansing, apart from safe antioxidants that act within the body.

Natural acne products and medicated acne products are available in the form of cleansers, scrubs, masks, gels, natural oils and herbal tablets. Totally natural, ZEN MED Derma Cleanse System contains cleansing gel to unclog and clean pores, and herbal capsules that ward off harmful bacteria as well as to replenish essential vitamins needed to combat acne inside the body. The presence of Aloe Vera, Vitamin A, E, D3, C, Pro-Vitamin B5, Allatoin and other vegetable ingredients has an enriching effect in tackling acne.

Not much can be done by an individual in terms of prevention of acne. However effective medical treatments are now available. But for maximum results, it is necessary to make use of them well before severe disfigurement has occurred.

There must be no confusion regarding the right acne products that suit your particular condition. Consult your doctor as well as friends and family who can help in zeroing in on the most suitable option.

Every day, it seems, a new study pertaining to weight loss or nutrition is released to the public. These studies tout the latest and greatest trends, products or discoveries and then a willing public jumps on the bandwagon expecting mighty results.

Have you ever wondered about the reliability or efficacy of those studies? Do they stand the test of time or slip into obscurity only to be replaced or supplanted by another study?

Well, Greek researcher Dr. John Ioannidis decided to study the studies and he came to some very interesting conclusions. Dr. Ioannidis reviewed 45 studies published in one of three prominent medical journals (New England Journal of Medicine, Journal of the American Medical Association, and Lancet) between 1990 and 2003. Of the 45 studies, seven of them (16%) were contradicted by later research and another seven (16%) were found in subsequent studies to have effects that were lesser than initially thought.

At this rate, over three in ten studies released will report results that are either not as solid as originally reported, or are completely incorrect. Going six or seven for ten in baseball is a Hall of Fame-paced trend, but what does this mean for those of us who are relying on these studies to help us win the Battle of the Bulge?

Like choosing a new shirt or blouse, a haircut or hairstyle, or a paint color for a house or a room, there is inherently more risk in selecting an option that has not been time-tested than one that has. We've all come across a garment in our own closets that caused us to wonder just what we were thinking when we bought that horrible thing. Similarly, jumping on a scientific bandwagon that promises to be the road to success can leave you broken down on the side of the road.

When new studies are released, remember that there are members of the media and business people who stand to gain from over-promoting results that are too new to trust. Of the contradicted results, half were completely incorrect (or so it seems) and half were shown to be much less effective than originally reported.

From a practical standpoint, ask yourself if you are willing to set yourself back by gaining weight rather than losing it, or by spending time pursuing an option that simply doesn't produce the results you expected. Fighting the Battle of the Bulge successfully means that you need to have a positive attitude at all times. It is too easy to become discouraged and make destructive decisions and following advice from reliable sources that turns out to be bad can be just the kind of discouragement you don't need.

As with fashion and paint colors, if you are making decisions for the long haul, it is better to be conservative than to go with the latest trends. When you read or hear of new scientific studies whose advice you might be tempted to follow, the best decision would be to find out if the study is confirming earlier or previous work. If so, odds are that the advice is going to stand the test of time. In the meanwhile, eat fewer calories than you burn and drink lots of water and you'll continue to move in the right direction!

Lots of times, how people deal with an ailment, depends on their incomes. People with plenty of money may go visit the doctor whenever their bodies feel abnormal. People with very little money will probably wait until an ailment becomes a major problem before they think about visiting a doctor. The medical and drug industries are very lucrative and for the most part, they work hand and hand. Neither industry would like it, if their patients found other ways to deal with their health problems. There have been quite a few alternative medicines, offered to the public, over the years, but one of the oldest is acupuncture.

Acupuncture is a technique used to heal the body, by inserting and adjusting needles, into specific acupuncture points. The theory behind acupuncture is to let out excess energy or blood, by making holes in the body along certain pathways, called meridians. Sometimes it's required to let out blood and not energy; while other times, the energy gets let out and not blood. There is an assumption, that diseases enter the body, through the skin. So, if a needle can be inserted into the body, at the same level of the disease, then the disease could be let out.

Acupuncture started in China, more than 2000 years ago. Because of improved communications, Chinese medicine made its way into Japan, during the 6th century. In the 17th century, Sugiyama created the insertion tube, which is the tube that needles are inserted through. Acupuncture reached the West, in the early 1900s, by way of France. By 1950, acupuncture was known all over Europe, but it wasn't until the 1970s, that America started to recognize it. The first acupuncture clinic, opened in Washington, D.C., in 1972.

Acupuncture can help treat a lot of different illnesses by relieving the pain associated with the illness. Some of the conditions that can benefit from acupuncture are, menopause, diarrhoea, chronic pain, anxiety and high blood pressure. Acupuncture may not apply to all problems, so people need to make sure their illness will benefit from the treatment. Also, breast implants, pregnancy, a pacemaker and drugs, may increase the danger of using acupuncture.

Although acupuncture has been an accepted form of treatment, for many years, it still involves a certain amount of risks. A hematoma or nerve damage could occur, if the wrong body parts are punctured. Brain damage or stroke is possible, with deep needling at the base of the skull. If needles aren't properly sterilized, then diseases could be transferred. Side effects from using acupuncture, are actually considered lower than using conventional treatments, but it's important that the public knows that there are risks to consider before they choose acupuncture.

Acupuncture was not a widely accepted treatment, when it began. It took many years for people to even consider it as a form of medicine. Although medicine has made many advances over the years, there's still a market for non-conventional treatments. Acupuncture has proven its effectiveness over the years and now, many people gladly choose acupuncture over conventional treatments.

Is There Really Any Cheap Hoodia?

According to some authoritative sources on hoodia, the current price of hoodia gordonii is $39.55 (US dollars) per ounce. So how can companies sell cheap hoodia? One belief is that they are not selling genuine hoodia gordonii. Another is that they are mixing it with inexpensive ingredients.

Advertisements of cheap hoodia gordonii products abound. E-bay sellers like to use this tag line, not to say that there is necessarily anything wrong with the products being sold on e-bay. Individuals could have bought large quantities and received volume discounts in order to turn them around for a lower than normal price and still make a few bucks. The hoodia in stores is not cheap. Even the hoodia herb mixtures that are commonly sold at Wal-greens and other retail establishments are not cheap. They may appear to cost less than the better known products like Desert Burn and Hoodia XR, but take a close look at the ingredients before you buy. The hoodia in stores is often something like ?Green Tea with Hoodia!? Green tea is cheap. Cheap hoodia does not exist. There is also the question of cost per day. Many companies claim that a bottle is a thirty day supply when closer look at the label indicates otherwise.

According to Hoodia gordonii.com.za, they have researched the market and found that more than 75% of all products being sold as hoodia gordonii, possibly cheap hoodia gordonii, are not hoodia gordonii. Hoodia gordonii.com.za does not sell hoodia gordonii. They are a South African based company that facilitates the ?authentication and monitoring of hoodia gordonii products in the global environment?. By buying hoodia in stores and retail outlets and sending these samples to an independent testing facility, they have been able to provide complete information about some of the products that are out there. Testing is expensive and this is a non-profit group, so every hoodia product on the market has not been tested by them at this time. One product that is listed in their ?Hall of Shame? is currently the subject of a possible class action suit for making false claims.

Even the fake hoodia is not cheap hoodia. These companies know what price consumers are willing to pay for something that has been touted as a ?cure for obesity?. The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) investigates companies for making fraudulent claims. Consumers who have purchased hoodia in stores that did not work and can not be returned can visit the official website of the FTC to lodge a complaint. Consumers can protect themselves from cheap hoodia ads, simply by not falling for them. The FTC also advises that companies which make claims that seem ?too good to be true?, making statements like ?lose weight without diet or exercise? should probably be avoided.

    3 Rare Dieting Tips

You probably have read and tested all the diets on the market! So have I! I know that I should stop snacking, avoid sugar/chocolate/cookies, whatever tastes so good! I know I should exercise more, but hey, can someone do my chores so I can go to the gym?! If there is a diet, I have tried it. So try these easy tips instead, which are not a diet.

1 - Brush your teeth after every meal to get the peppermint taste in your mouth. Clean, peppermint breath kills the urge of eating. Mixed peppermint and sugar or food tastes bad!

2 - Drink coffee before you exercise. Caffeine makes the fatty acids work better in your blood, which again means you burn more fat. 5 cups of coffee daily is recommendable, a new research shows that 5 cups a day protects against several diseases. But no more than 5 cups!

3 - Eat apples. A research in Washington State showed that by eating 3 apples a day you can lose up to 20 pounds in three months. The fiber in the apples reduces the cholesterol and helps your digestion. And by reducing the cholesterol it's healthy for your heart!

These three tips are easy to include in your daily routines. They are no sacrifice like most of the diets.

    Eating Disorder Compulsive Overeaters

Compulsive overeaters are another type of eating disorders. Compulsive overeaters are caught in a cycle of depression and binge eating. Food is often used as a coping method to help handle uncomfortable feelings. Some suffers say that their overeating episodes are used to numb all that is going on around them. Some even describe it as an addiction to food, in turn using it to hide from their emotions.

People that suffer from compulsive eating disorders usually are overweight. They are also usually aware that their eating habits are not normal. For many sufferers binges may not be broken into specific episodes but into days where they eat more than normal throughout the day. There are many triggers for the compulsive eater which may include depression, stress, boredom, anxiety and prolonged dieting. Most have a big dissatisfaction with their body image.

During a binge, the stress and negative feelings may temporarily disappear. Unfortunately after the binge, feelings of shame, more depression and disgust follow. Often the episodes of bingeing are usually kept secret and any evidence of overeating is hidden so others cannot see.

It sometimes can be hard to spot an overeater because it is not uncommon for the sufferer to eat normal and even restrictively in front of family and friends. Then later they may binge in private. Overeaters often binge late at night, when their family is asleep. They will also frequent fast food restaurants and convenience stores alone. Most compulsive eaters have a stash of junk food hidden from others for their personal use later.

Similar to other eating disorder such as anorexia or bulimia, overeaters are forever struggling and are very unhappy with their weight. With a compulsive overeater, the number on the scale that morning determines how the sufferer feels about themselves. The constant dieting becomes a way of life for the compulsive overeater.

Compulsive overeaters often try every diet fad that comes around. With each diet that is tried, there is hope that this is the one. This diet will be the one to work. It may work at first; there may be some weight loss success with the new diet. Unfortunately in most cases the diet fails. Most often all the weight that was lost is regained. Then the cycle continues, because of the failure there is depression, the overeater will return to bingeing for comfort.

There are medical complications for the compulsive overeater. The overeating behavior can lead to severe and sometimes life threatening medical conditions such as hypertension and cardiac problems. Diabetes and severe depression are also major complications. Like other eating disorders such as anorexia and bulimia, compulsive overeating is a disease and it can't be cured with willpower alone, health professionals are needed along with family and friends support.

There are some warning signs to look for if you suspect someone is suffering from compulsive overeating. The warning signs are: eating large quantities of food, even though they are not hungry. Eating fast and eating to the point that they are uncomfortably full, are other signs of compulsive overeating. A sufferer may choose to eat alone because of embarrassment. A compulsive overeater will have feelings of depression and guilt along with disgust after eating. They may also have a history of weight fluctuations.

    Summary

Complex intracellular inclusions were identified in brain cells of patients with non-inflammatory stealth virus encephalopathy. The cells showed extensive disruption of mitochondria leading to the suggestion that the inclusions were providing an alternative (non-mitochondria) source of cellular energy. Pigmented intracellular inclusions and extra-cellular materials were similarly identified in stealth virus cultures.

A characteristic feature of these cultures is the progressive lessening of the cytopathic (cell damaging) effect that coincides with, and is dependent upon, the accumulation of these pigmented materials. Tissue culture and direct patient derived materials exhibit various qualities consistent with their functioning as energy transducers. Specifically, they are composed of conglomerates of finer particles that can display fluorescent, electrostatic, sound resonating and variable magnetic activities. Individual particles contain various combinations of different minerals. They can act as both electron donors and electron acceptors in redox reactions and can also generate gas bubbles from water.

The viability of cells in cultures containing alternative cellular energy pigments (ACE-pigments) can be influenced by exposure to external electromagnetic, magnetic and sound frequencies that have no discernable effects on normal cell cultures. Enhanced cell growth and survival occurs upon exposure to relatively low intensities, while cell destruction occurs at higher intensity external energy exposure. Various natural products show ACE-pigment like activities, including a capacity of protecting cell cultures from the cytopathic effect of stealth viruses. These products are suitable for double blind clinical studies.

    Introduction

Plants and certain bacteria derive energy in the form of sunlight to covalently link hydrogen and carbon atoms to form carbohydrates. This photosynthetic process is mediated by chlorophyll molecules that can specifically absorb photons corresponding to the blue and red components of sunlight. The photons elevate the energy levels of particular electrons within the chlorophyll molecules that can then be used in an electron donating (reducing) reaction between carbon dioxide and water to yield carbohydrates, such as glucose.

Electrons can subsequently be withdrawn from carbohydrates in the form of chemical energy for synthesis of other types of life sustaining organic molecules and for the generation heat. Protons typically accompany electrons in electron donating (reduction) and electron capturing (oxidation) reactions. The term oxidation is used since oxygen plays a major role as an electron acceptor to form water.

Chlorophyll utilizes only a minor fraction of the entire electromagnetic spectrum. Not only does this seem rather inefficient but the question can also be asked what was the energy used to synthesize the original chlorophyll molecules. Energy could conceivably be derived from other parts of the electromagnetic spectrum and/or from other less well understood forms of energy.

Viruses can cause cell damage by various mechanisms including simple competition for the metabolic resources available to the cell. I have defined a grouping of cytopathic (cell damaging) viruses, termed stealth viruses, that fail to evoke an immune mediated inflammatory reaction (please refer to www.s3support.com for a complete list of publications). The best characterized stealth virus originated from the cytomegalovirus of African green monkeys. The virus was isolated from a patient with the chronic fatigue syndrome, with a similar but not identical virus isolated from a patient with a manic depressive, bi-polar illness.

The virus induces a severe acute disease in cats followed by considerable clinical recovery in spite on an absent inflammatory response. Similarly, the cytopathic effect in tissue culture tends to abate over time, especially in infrequently fed cultures. The mechanism of this striking recovery process is attributed to materials that accumulate in tissue culture supernatants since reactivation occurs upon replacing the tissue culture medium with fresh medium. Reactivation can be prevented by including supernatant materials from repaired cultures into the re-feeding medium.

Unusual intracellular and extra-cellular materials were previously noted in the brains of stealth virus inoculated cats and in the brain biopsies of various patients with stealth virus encephalopathy. They were periodic acid Schiff (PAS) positive and also readily seen using the cationic Stains-all dye.

Irregularly shaped inclusions were also noted on electron microscopy of both animal and human brain biopsies. The highly ordered complex structures of some of these inclusions suggested that they were fulfilling some cellular function. Given the marked disruption of the cells' mitochondria, it seemed reasonable to postulate that the inclusions may be providing an alternative (non-mitochondria) energy source. The following data support such a conclusion.

Complex Inclusions in a Brain Biopsy from a Stealth Virus Infected Child

The child's illness evolved over seven months from what was initially considered to be a conduct and attention deficit disorder to an apparent neurological disease. In spite of markedly abnormal magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), his early neurological examination was essentially normal. A brain biopsy showed lipid accumulation within glial cells without accompanying inflammation, and was considered non-diagnostic by the attending and referral neuropathologists.

After extensive clinical reviews in major medical centers, a second brain biopsy was performed at Stanford University , this time with sections prepared for electron microscopy. Apart form the lipid vacuolization and mitochondria damage, the attending neuropathologist failed to report on any of the inclusions shown in Figures 1-8 of the article posted on the s3support.com web site.

Pigmented Particles, Threads and Ribbon-like Structures in Stealth Virus Cultures

Representative photographs of the cytopathic effect occurring in stealth virus cultures are also available on the web site. The repair and reactivation processes are illustrated in Figures 1 and 2 of the published article Stealth virus culture pigments: a potential source of cellular energy. Exp Mol Pathol. 2003: 74:210-23 . Many of the cell clusters become pigmented and the pigmented material can coalesce into discrete particles, some of which are extruded into the tissue culture medium. Various threads and ribbon-like structures can also develop in stealth virus cultures.

They can show intricate patterning and can exist as either hollow tubes or flat bands. Both by scanning electron microscopy and auto-fluorescence microscopy, the particles can be seen as conglomerates of finer particles. The tread and ribbon-like structures are also auto-fluorescent with wide excitation and emission spectra. The particles can occasionally show magnetic activity which is characterized by a degree of variability in sensitivity and responsiveness that is not seen with inorganic metallic objects. Electron dispersive X-ray (EDX) analysis shows that the particles contain various minerals with individual particles displaying quite distinctive patterns of mineral composition.

The particles can show both electron donating (reducing) and electron accepting (oxidizing) reactions. The former is readily demonstrated using the chromogen MTT as an electron acceptor. It can also occur with reagents such as iodine in alcohol. Oxidation is seen with the appearance of calcium oxalate crystals following the addition of ascorbic acid to medium containing ACE pigments. The particles can also generate gas bubbles when placed in water. A remarkable feature is the variability seen over time with many of these properties. The particles appear to exist in both a charged and a discharged state. Individual particles will also commonly resonate when exposed to wide band sound frequencies.

Using a sound generator, each particle will commonly exhibit a rather narrow range of movement activating frequencies. Externally applied electromagnetic, fixed and pulsating magnetic energies, and sound waves can show effects on isolated ACE-pigments and on the viability of stealth virus cultures. It is easier to demonstrate cell destructive effects using light, X-ray and magnetic energies, but low intensity energy exposures have clearly benefited some cultures. Both sound and magnetic energies can induce considerable movement of freely floating cell clusters.

ACE Pigments Derived from Stealth Virus Infected Patients.

Similar mineral containing particles have been found in dried perspiration from stealth virus infected patients. They can exhibit rapidly reversible electrostatic properties suggesting internal movements of electrical charge. They are auto-fluorescent and can be both reducing (electron donating) and oxidizing (electron accepting). They can also generate gas bubbles from water.

Erratic movements of the particles in liquid suspensions may account for what earlier investigators have termed pleomorphic microorganisms. The occasional transformation of the particles into thread-like forms is also consistent with the mistaken belief that the supposed bacteria could transform into fungal forms. It is likely that ACE pigments are also responsible for so called delusional parasitosis or Ekbom's syndrome experienced by occasional patients with severe psychiatric illness. They may also explain mistaken reports of head lice in stealth virus infected patients.

    Natural Products and Subtle Energies

An assay for the electron shuttling activity of ACE-pigments has been developed and applied to a number of natural products, including a Japanese plant extract and a material designated Enercell. Interesting patterns develop during these reactions that appear to be subject to environmental influences. These reactions are currently being used as a potential sensor for non-conventional forms of energy that may influence their physical and/or chemical properties. Other highly energized natural products can contain microscopic energy rich particles that show remarkable motility and that could easily be mistaken for bacteria.

Although not as well characterized as electromagnetic radiation, most physicists realize that other radiating forms of energy do exist. Included in this category are so called dark energy, phonons, biophotons (chi, orgone) and what is variously referred to as the ether, subtle energy, or zero-point energy. Understanding the potential reciprocal interactions of living organisms and the ether is rendered difficult because of the lack of suitable detection methods.

The restricted patterns of the minerals in individual ACE pigment particles suggested the existence of selective mineral affinity forces that favor the attraction of like substances. Minerals have mainly been studied in inorganic forms. Increasingly, it appears that minerals can exhibit quite different properties when either single atoms or small microclusters. Minerals can also behave differently when incorporated into organic and even silica based complex molecular lattices.

The concepts of orbitally-rearranged monoatomic element ( ORME ), molecular energy transduction with superconducting coherent energy emissions, and gravity defying elements, have been proposed to explain some of the unique features of these altered states of mineral existence. The field of biophysics is currently addressing the potential harmonization of energy patterns within living organisms and even between organisms separated by considerable distances. The experience of various healers would also suggest that conscious thought may be able to alter these harmonizing energy patterns.

    Clinical and Agricultural Studies

Given their strong activity in the electron transferring assay system and testimonial evidence for efficacy in various disease states, a number of these natural products have been selected for detailed double blind, placebo controlled studies. Subjects with illnesses potentially attributable to stealth virus infections, and subjects who manifestly are lacking in energy production would be selected. Among the latter group plans are underway to test patients with various wasting syndromes (including cancer cachexia), children with severe diarrhea and asphyxiated newborn infants. Studies on both experimental and livestock animals can similarly be performed.

An advantage of the energy based approach to therapy is that it removes the focus away from using products as a means of enhancing the immune system. The new approach allows for a two way extension of studies to be conducted in an agricultural setting. Thus many products destined for evaluation in human and animal studies can be objectively assessed for their growth enhancement of various plants and crops. Conversely, natural materials that promote the quality of agricultural products may find usefulness in both animals and humans.

    Co-ordination of Effort

It would be desirable to have an organizational structure that would encourage open communication among individuals contributing products, performing efficacy assessments and conducting basic research. Sound financial management and good public relations are also essential. The Government, Industry and Major Academic Institutions have, unfortunately, tended to put money-driven self interests above that of the public.

A fledgling non-profit organization termed S3Support has been joined by an Applied BioPhysics Foundation to form the Progressive University and BioPhysics Institute. Its primary goal is to develop and promote a nationwide endeavor to more rapidly bring the enormous benefits of energy based clinical and agricultural science to mankind. This effort can be assisted by increasing the membership of health care providers, farmers, researchers, administrators, public spokespersons, patients and their family members, etc., in the Applied BioPhysics Foundation.
